ink in water

For my publications class, one of our assignments is to design book covers for a trilogy series; either one from a list they gave us or one we picked ourselves. In college, I took a children's literature class and we read the first book in a trilogy by cornelia funke called inkworld. The books are pretty interesting for young adult books and I thought it'd be fun to attempt a book design for younger readers but that is also a fantasy series. One of my ideas was to have the images on the covers be ink/food coloring in water. I wanted to try to take the pictures myself to see what kinds of effects I could get. Here are some of my favorite:
